JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Function

An engineering professional who applies scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to complete assignments related to maintenance excellence and reliability. This position is involved in the overall life cycle of capital assets (designing, delivering, operating, maintaining, and decommissioning) in the most productive and cost effective manner. Manage the preventive and predictive maintenance programs, manage maintenance line support, manage/support the department and plant maintenance budgets, coordinate plant shutdown assignments, provide capital project input and support as well as overseeing the maintenance resources necessary to assure the production plan is met and/or exceeded while maintaining a zero incident safety mindset, teamwork attitude and excellent customer service.

Main Responsibilities

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

Project Management: · Coordinates and monitors activities within the Maintenance Excellence program.

Reviews plans and monitors status of implementation for those people assigned to effort, participates in site assessments.

Estimates and coordinates resources needed (materials, budget, time and people) to accomplish assigned individual tasks.

Participates in economic analysis and feasibility studies.

Jointly responsible for achieving financial targets in support of business objectives.

Technical/Design: · Independently gathers maintenance and manufacturing performance data (Maximo, Zarpac, etc.), and performs preliminary analysis.

Reports findings.

Prepares and communicates recommendations and respective action plans to drive cost containment and cost reduction efforts.

Anticipates future directions.

Benchmarks internally and externally.

Assists with deployment of predictive and reliability centered maintenance strategies.

Problem Solving: · Provide a centralized, strategic look across equipment performance (downtime), material/component failure analysis, and changeovers.

Predicts patterns/trends.

Grasps complexities and sees relationships among data, determines consequences and alternatives; makes recommendations, analyzes problems from multiple perspectives. · Improves maintenance processes.

Recognizes and implements process improvements and cost reductions; creatively applies others’ ideas.

Facilitates root cause analysis for equipment downtime.

Develops and executes reliability studies and evaluations of equipment robustness.

Organizational Interface: · Mentors others by sharing information and providing feedback and guidance.

Prepares written communication.

Conveys information effectively with team members, designers, technicians, and other technical personnel, both internal and external to Abbott, using appropriate communication protocols; obtains approval to proceed with proposed action plans.

Additional Responsibilities May Include: · Develops procedures and standards.

Directs the efforts of others such as technicians and outside resources.

Provides training.

Supervising the resources for Preventive/Predictive Maintenance.

Customer interface (in support of uptime and meeting production plan) and/or daily performance review meetings.

Leads capital plant projects or process improvement initiatives (i.e.

OpEx).

Plan, implement, and perform effectiveness checks for corrective actions on exception reports.

If needed, provide maintenance supervisory coverage.

Accountability / Scope / Budget

Works under general supervision who reviews results for overall accuracy, completeness, and soundness of technical judgment. · Identifies and quantifies technical risks and their consequences relative to the success of part of a project; recommends appropriate action, e.g. reports calculations and recommendations in terms concrete enough for management to make an informed decision. · Decisions or recommendations would typically achieve department/project objectives.

This position interfaces with all Abbott Nutrition manufacturing facilities, globally. ·Manage the preventive and predictive maintenance programs, manage maintenance line support, manage/support the department and plant maintenance budgets, coordinate plant shutdown assignments, provide capital project input and support as well as overseeing the maintenance resources necessary to assure the production plan is met and/or exceeded while maintaining a zero incident safety mindset, teamwork attitude and excellent customer service.

Minimum Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, science or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 2+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. Additional post-graduate education may contribute towards the desired years of experience. A Mechanical or Industrial Engineering degree or related experience is preferred. Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals. Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals. · The skill set of this position requires a balance of industrial and mechanical engineering principles, data analysis, process improvement techniques, and problem-solving. · Possesses a working technical knowledge of maintenance programs. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Familiarity with “reliability centered maintenance’ is preferred. ·Candidate must successfully demonstrate/possess a strong work ethic, safety-conscious philosophy (i.e. zero incident mindset), strong customer service attitude, excellent communication skills, initiative, strong technical knowledge, planning and organizing, teamwork, attention to detail, strong problem solving skills and prior knowledge of computer systems (i.e. Windows desktop software). · Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. · Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintenance, and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators. · Listens to and understands others’ points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one’s own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations. · Works well with others in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment. · Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences. Has a technical background in health care, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceutical, or similar industries (preferred). Experience: 5 +yrs leadership experience or equivalent. Previous experience as a mechanic, electrician or instrument tech beneficial. Extensive experience in leading/managing projects or process improvement initiatives; Previous Lean Six Sigma training beneficial. Extensive experience in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues. Strong, proven leadership experience required with an emphasis on supervision of direct reports and influence senior leadership. Previous experience in generating and managing financial budgets. Ability to manage a department in the absence of the department manager.
