Front Line Leader (Supervisor) – Material Control
Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives:
The Frontline Leader (Supervisor), Material Control should have a general knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and understand site complexity.
The Front Line Leader I will initially be learning through the direct coaching of management the leadership requirements to become competent in delivering organizational results in all key performance areas.
Own efforts required to deliver the EHS performance for the /department. Coach and direct individuals in delivering EHS performance for department.
Ensure continuous focus on EHS through evaluations, reinforcing procedures and policies through observation and constructive coaching. Actively participate, prepare for and support safety focused audits.
Drive accountability throughout the department by ensuring policies are followed and performance managing deviations from policy
Interface between EHS to influence and reinforce safety programs
Drive correct EHS behaviors at the department level identifying and executing interventions for improvement. Model and promote the behaviors that support a continuously improving EHS culture by engaging with employees and other key stakeholders in ensuring all EHS requirements are met inclusive of internal and external regulatory objectives and direction.
Own efforts required to deliver quality and compliance performance for the department of accountability. Coach and direct individuals to be in position to take appropriate action related to quality and compliance issues.
Understand and manage GMP, quality, compliance and food safety risks appropriately.
Initiate, manage, and make decisions in collaboration with the Quality organization in the best interests of GMP, quality, compliance and food safety. Accountable for key elements such as line clearance, Batch Right First Time, labeling, coding, Extraneous Material, and Protect our Products (PoP) events.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
Focus is on day to day operations, with short term focus based on meeting requirements that are tactical versus strategic.
Communicates to line personnel daily while maintaining a constant line presence.
Coordinates activities related to shift starts and changes.
Model and promote organizational values by providing effective leadership, direction, development and support to the team. Drive a culture of engagement through the team and department.
Directly supervises team and participates in staffing activities.
Assure team members are trained and understand duties, responsibilities, and performance against established expectations.
Provide timely coaching, counseling and feedback.
Develop all line personnel by securing appropriate training, providing mentoring and assigning progressively challenging stretch responsibilities within the scope of the team and department accountabilities.
Model and promote a thorough understanding of what drives product costs, profitability, and cash flow within the Material Operation, while operating within fiscal constraints, material utilization and CIP goals.
Lead efforts required to deliver all productivity performance metrics, and understanding the productivity drivers that impact positive financial performance.
Tracking and trending of KPI's including implementation of corrective actions.
Assist in the development of strategic and tactical goal development for the Material Control team that aligns with business site strategies.
Lead the development of goal setting for the team and individuals on the team.
Establish a communications framework that assures timely and relevant transfer of information to and from all levels and functional areas of the organization.
Ensure compliance with all HR policies and procedures.
Understand and effectively use the rewards and recognition programs.
Promote positive employee relations by maintaining a high profile presence on the floor, direct engagement with employees, regular open communications and encouraging knowledge sharing and open exchange of ideas.
Make and communicate decisions that are appropriate for level of accountability
Communicates with other departments and functions as needed in support of meeting operational objectives.
Active participation in team and department projects including responsibility for execution of assigned actions.
Accountability / Scope / Budget:
Accountable for transportation of raw material and production supplies in a timely manner to meet production requirements while minimizing in-plant inventories.
Accountable for all warehouse GMP and is SME for external and internal audit interface.
Accountable for delivering financial targets including greater than $4MM annual spend budget.
Accountable for the safe and accurate receiving and storage of over $150MM annual raw material throughput and production supplies.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, science, food technology, technical degree. Two to four years of experience in a regulated industry, with preference being for food, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetics, etc. preferred.
This position requires of knowledge of business and manufacturing principles, techniques and practices to give guidance to the Plant Material Control function.
This person must have the knowledge and experience to handle projects and issues, and versed in methods to improve operational efficiencies.
