JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Job Function

The Project Manager is responsible for delivering high quality, on time and on budget solutions that address customer business, workflow and regulatory requirements. This includes conducting product gap analysis, managing STARLIMS project resources, customer resources and coordinating activities with the STARLIMS product team and occasionally participating in the configuration activities of the software as necessary. Manage or assist with the project initiation process including the kickoff meeting and detailed requirements gathering, which at times can become a pre-sales activity. Develop the gap analysis and create or assist with development of statement of work (SOW). Assist with or manage the project plan. Work with Product Team and Implementation Engineers to develop project configuration strategy to meet customer business and workflow requirements. Maintain close communications with the STARLIMS product team to explore alternatives to maximize use of out of the box functionality; report product defects; and provide input for new product requirements. Is sometimes called upon to provide guidance for other projects and to work on issues that are critical to the business.

Core Job Responsibilities

Execute customer site survey to gather detailed business requirements and determine gaps against out of box product; lead customer resources in extract requirements to necessary level of detail. Assess the degree to which changes to scope; issues; and risks will affect the project by working with project manager and vertical management as needed. Measure performance to assure the project is progressing as compared to original plan and budget. On projects where serving as Project Manager and Business Analyst - Manage daily project team activities to balance priorities; meet project plan timelines; and ensure that quality assurance documentation and testing procedures are followed with discipline. Coordinate resources to ensure project needs are addressed and effectively assign tasks and deliverables to team members based upon their abilities. Communicate with vertical management regarding required changes to resourcing plan. Provide timely and proactive communications to the customer regarding project status; upcoming tasks; scheduling conflicts; and anticipated barriers to executing the project implementation on schedule and on budget. Maintains detailed time record of project work in time tracking system. Provide routine status updates to project manager and vertical management. Coordinate resources amongst team to ensure project needs are addressed and effectively assign tasks and deliverables to team members based upon their abilities. Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. Understand customer workflows and requirements and relate to product capability. Maintain deep understanding of product capabilities; articulate proper use of the functionality to the customer to encourage use of out of the box functionality to minimize project customization. Understands business requirements extensively to not only provide input to Product Team on business requirements but also makes suggestions on ways to implement solution. Mentors other members of team.

Position Accountability / Scope

Manages Japan projects involving 1 - 6 other STARLIMS or contractor personnel that may or may not have a project manager. Make decisions that impact project level activities. Influence project level budget. Manage project resourcing. Internal and external. Business Impact and Risk: $0- $3MM in business financial impact.

Minimum Education

Bachelor degree in Chemistry; Biology; Clinical Lab Sciences; computer science; engineering; or related technical discipline.

Minimum Experience / Training Required

Experience in managing an enterprise software implementation project. Experience or knowledge of laboratory informatics software implementation a plus. Strong understanding of business, exploring customer needs and objectives. Knowledgeable in technology. Excellent teamwork skills; proven project management skills. PMP certification strongly desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
