Responsible for the purchasing and supply management activities for Packaging which may include the following: Paper, Resin, Blow Molding, Injection Molding, Composites, Metal, Thermoforming, and Flexible films. Drive "One Abbott Procurement" vision across divisions globally and influences synergies among divisions. Work closely with key stakeholders (Package Development, Engineering, Research and Development, Quality, and Commercial) in both Corporate and Division organizations to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans. Nurture stakeholder relationships by serving as a business partner, helping identify critical business requirements and providing sourcing and procurement services that meet expectations. Drive reduced total cost of ownership by optimizing Tier 2 and Tier 3 supply chains. Leverage extensive market and supplier knowledge to drive lower TCO. Represent Abbott strategically in the industry and community.
Proactively identify areas of opportunity for new business, process improvement, and cost efficiencies.
Provide insight to the business unit on how to best develop and leverage Supplier capabilities for the organization(s).

Lead supplier evaluation and selection for category.
Assist in defining category procurement strategy for Abbott- align with overall strategy and be an enabler.
Drive Total Cost of Ownership reductions for category through analytics. Clearly define category taxonomy and manage baseline.
Manage cost models.
Coordinate across corporate, functions, and divisions to share best practices and adherence to guidelines.
Understands the overall needs of multiple business units and to negotiate an accepted portfolio meeting the most strategic needs of the category.
Measure and track internal performance for Abbott users.
Advise business unit(s) about similar strategies employed by other healthcare companies.
Develop and communicate supplier performance and capacity trends and impacts to business stakeholders.
Partner and collaborate with key One Procurement staff of other Abbott divisions in order to support cross divisional business initiatives, and explore Procurement synergies and efficiencies.
Build and maintain relationships with key category suppliers. Manage ongoing Supplier relationships.
Implement agreed Category Strategies.
Initiate a collaborative environment among stakeholders.
Maintain strong relationships across various functions demonstrate the value-add of leveraging and build enthusiasm and support for adoption.
Ensure optimal balance between value for money and cost savings is achieved, while ensuring quality and good customer service.
Monitor market dynamics for category across regions.
Continually look for opportunities to drive value creations, cost reduction and cost avoidance.
Manage category projects across business units and Divisions globally when and where applicable. Participate in business projects based on category expertise.
- Deals with people issues in a constructive and timely manner.
Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.
Operate with goals set by the DVP/Senior Director of Category.
Erroneous decisions would normally result in failure to complete projects or objectives of category. Has impact on budgets, expenses and project completion.

Span of Control: Global
BA or equivalent experience required, MBA preferred
Engineering/Technical Degree or equivalent experience in Packaging, Polymer Science or related field strongly preferred
Professional Certifications a plus: Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Project Management Professional (PMP)
Minimum Experience/Training Required
5 years Strategic Packaging Procurement and/or Category Management experience.
Functional experience in Procurement, Supply Chain or Related field
Excellent analytical skills and ability to utilize MS Excel or other tools for reporting and trending
Program/project management skills
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Good interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence and networking skills
International experience a plus
Knowledge of packaging markets by region
Experience with supplier management
Ability to develop actionable implementations plans
Relevant business process knowledge, as related to Procurement and Category Management
Knowledge of Packaging and related raw materials technologies and products
Strong negotiations skills
Good understanding of capacity and demand planning principles
Some experience leading teams – both with direct staff and indirect project teams
