We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Sr. Field Clinical Engineer located in NY/NJ Metro. Primarily responsible for demonstrated and consistent success in group leadership, Field Clinical Engineer (FCE) mentoring, project management, Clinical Research, publications in the technical/clinical literature, patent submissions, as well as consistently outstanding performance in: field support of Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) and Research Clinical Trials, accurate technical support/troubleshooting, general Field Representation for Abbott, strategic collaboration with Sales to develop business in the local territory, and Field Input to various home office groups. Applies advanced field clinical engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems. Impact this role will have on Abbott: -

  • Develop and file patent(s) in areas that are impactful to the company

  • Develop and file idea(s) for improving existing products

  • Develop and file data mining idea(s) that can be used to generate abstracts or articles.

  • Sub-analysis of current or completed studies - Case studies that show significant benefit of company products and features

  • Develop relationships with physicians to facilitate data mining and generate abstract ideas

  • Develop special projects that improve FCE productivity

  • Provide leadership to the FCE organization

  • Act as FCE champion for a clinical trial as defined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

  • Act as chair/co-chair on FCE product planning council or take a highly active role in one of these groups

  • Organize monthly meeting calls with agendas and minutes for calls - Provide periodic updates to FCE management on council activities

  • Meet regularly with relevant in-house teams to proactively look for ways that FCE group can contribute to the development process

  • Monitor field issues to look for potential areas for improvement

  • Work with FCE management team to identify potential new members for the FCE Council

  • Maximize input from FCEs on the council to look for ways all council FCEs to provide significant input

  • Coordinates field support for all Clinical Research in the territory and mentoring FCSs and FCEs on conducting Clinical Research

  • This should include identification of quality centers, training of facility staff on the requirements of the study and operation of the device, insure FCE attendance for all procedures, continually monitor all aspects of study progress (Enrollment level, protocol and regulatory compliance, and data compliance), supporting the administrative needs of the center, continuous technical support

  • Assist investigators to publish and/or present the results of these studies at major medical meetings

  • Provides 24-hour technical support and troubleshooting to customers and Abbott IESD and CATD field personnel

  • Effectively manages assigned projects such as Mentoring, Product Planning Groups, various Performance Improvement Initiatives, educational materials, etc.

  • Seeks and promotes original research projects which may be impactful to Abbott

  • Insures the startup of these studies and strong enrollment in the centers

  • Functions as an expert resource for cross-covering difficult cases, handling esoteric technical service calls, critical software testing, advisory boards, and high profile presentations

  • Function as a “pipeline” between Abbott and the Medical Community, constantly communicating important information to customers, within the FCE group and to other departments (product planning, engineering, marketing and education) - This includes providing Product feedback, comments and suggestions and Competitive information to the Product Planning and Marketing groups

  • Supports the Field Clinical Engineering, Education and Sales Organizations as a speaker/trainer, developer of training materials and/or Technical Memos on new technologies and advanced algorithms (including competitive products)

  • Collaborates with Sales Management and Sales Reps to develop and execute strategic plans to develop business in the territory

  • Assist sales partners by providing technical sales presentations in key accounts

  • Develop several key accounts where the FCE presence can produce maximum benefits, both to the company and to the FCE’s professional development - These key accounts should be resource centers to Abbott for IDE clinical trials, employee training and Advisory Boards

  • Mentor FCEs on key account development

  • Provides general corporate support as required to different departments including, but not limited to Product Planning, Marketing, Patent submissions, product literature review, assistance to legal department and strategic planning input

  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements - Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements - Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments

  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned

Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand Abbott’s marketplace success: -

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Biological Sciences, a related field, or equivalent

  • An advanced credential is preferred - Typically a minimum of six plus years of progressively more responsible relevant clinical experience, with in-depth knowledge of cardiology, electro-physiology, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), pacemakers, or cardiac electro-physiology procedures - Experience in electrophysiology and experience with Electrophysiology procedures, Ablation procedures and advanced mapping techniques

  • An advanced credential in a relevant discipline/concentration such as Biological Sciences

  • Professional Health Science certification or designation

  • Successful completion of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE), Associated Professionals examinations in Electrophysiology and Pacing and Defibrillation. International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE)

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred - Applies an extensive technical expertise and/or a thorough specialized knowledge at the forefront of the clinical engineering profession; applies, develops, and promotes advanced concepts and practices; recognized authority in field

  • A qualified record of developing/implementing new processes within the clinical engineering profession is a must

  • Demonstrated delivery of new product development concepts and the submission of patent ideas

  • Consistent record of delivering research information which adds value to management's decision making process

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
