This is an exciting position where you will be a software architect responsible for product design for an industry-leading blockbuster product - Abbott Diabetes Care's FreeStyle Libre. This is an exciting opportunity to design next generation software for a product ecosystem that involves mobile applications, web-based applications, cloud services and desktop applications.
Summary of Preferred Qualifications:
15+ years developing and designing software products, and demonstrated experience with full software development lifecycle, ideally in a regulated industry
Strong experience with translating business needs and complex problems into systems requirements with system design architectures that are robust, flexible and scalable.
Strong experience in areas of interface development, data modeling, database design and cybersecurity
Demonstrated experience with industry-standard practices in design, development and testing. Experienced with different computer languages - strong C++ and Java skills
Proficient use of appropriate tools and techniques for productivity and code quality: debuggers, profilers, unit testing, source control, etc. Evaluate tools and technologies for adoption by development teams
Experience with (a) industry-standard design patterns, (b) developing multi-threaded code, (c) develop complex algorithms
Ability to ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Experience with architecting software applications on multiple OS’s (IOS, Android, Windows, MacOS)
Superior communications skills (oral & written)
Ability to work with cross-functional team
Strong experience with communications standards (e.g. BLE and USB)
Primary Job Function:
Works in a lead role in one or more aspects of the overall software development process (such as software design, code development) of mobile application and desktop application software under a disciplined product development process that meets FDA requirements. Works independently on identifying new technologies and creating systems designs for implementation into new product development and process improvements. Exercises independent judgment in identifying, recommending and implementing significant and/or complex new tools/process improvements to meet company objectives in areas of new product development, product testing, process improvement and compliance with regulatory requirements. Lead one or more technical teams in areas of software design, development, testing and/or maintenance activities. Develops networks involving cross functional/cross departmental groups as well as communication to Senior Management. Readily adjusts priorities and works within team environment for timely completion of common objectives for multiple projects. Resolve significant and/or complex technical issues to meet company objectives.
Technical leadership in one or more areas of desktop application/mobile app software development (such as software design, code development and testing) including project scheduling activities. Reliably deliver high quality software within schedule constraints. Provides technical ownership of software products. Actively participates in product development teams for the development of new products and services. Works with the Software consultant(s) on the system and/or algorithm design and /or testing issues. Interacts with QA engineers to ensure that software products are robust and of very high quality. Implement software or testing designs efficiently utilizing the appropriate tools such as C, C++, C#, Java, Nunit, Coverity as well as use of Version Control Systems. Research technical issues and propose technical approaches that achieve product and quality requirements. Participate in the full life cycle of development, from specification and design through implementation, testing, and support. Work on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires and evaluation of intangibles. Exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Bachelors in Electrical or Computer Science or related engineering or scientific field. MS or PhD degree ideal.
15 years relevant experience and a Bachelors degree or 10 yrs with MS degree. Will receive additional 2 years experience credit for PhD. Experience in software engineering management or technical leadership highly desirable. Good knowledge of software engineering principles. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Minimum 10 years of experience (software architectural design and coding) in applications programming and/or software development of mobile applications for safety critical products. Excellent troubleshooting skills are a must. Strong debugging techniques and experience on using debugger is required and/or use of testing tools to ensure high level of quality of software product. Strong working knowledge of the principles of quality software engineering as described by software lifecycle development processes that are consistent with ISO, IEEE, or other FDA recognized standards. Experience in design, engineering, and testing of software contained in medical devices developed under the FDAs regulations for 510(k) or PMA products is preferred. Experience in Source Control Management is highly preferable. Experience on multitasking in modern OS’s (IOS, Android, Windows, MacOS) software design and development is highly preferable. Experience on Internet technologies (web development, application servers) and database design is a strong plus. Knowledgeable on device driver and low level device interface design and development is a plus. Good experience in Communications design using Bluetooth, NFC, WiFi, TCP/IP, USB or equivalent is a plus.
