Our broad line of vascular devices–which includes vessel closure, endovascular and coronary technologies–are used to treat vessel diseases of the heart, carotid arteries and peripheral blood vessels. These vessel diseases can lead to heart attack, stroke, critical limb ischemia and other serious vascular conditions.

We currently have a vacancy for Chemist to join Abbott Vascular in Clonmel.

Purpose statement:

Conducts analytical testing of raw materials, Finished goods, In-process and engineering samples. Reviews and approves analytical data to ensure accuracy at the sample level. Trains others on analytical testing to support manufacturing. Conducts laboratory investigations to determine root cause and implements corrective actions and preventative actions. Ensures analytical laboratory is in compliance with procedures and processes. May support analytical research of chemical compounds. Analyses and tests organic and inorganic compounds to identify properties for development or improvement of new or existing products.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conducts analytical quality control testing to support manufacturing.

  • Ultilises new or existing analytical test methods to determine quantity, quality and purity of compounds.

  • Writes reports as needed documenting findings and recommending process and/or test method improvements.

  • Conducts investigations driving for root cause and proper corrective and preventative actions.

  • Troubleshoots instruments in analysis.

  • Trains others on analytical testing.

  • Ensures analytical laboratory is in compliance with procedures and processes.

  • Reviews all analytical data for accuracy and completeness.

  • Approves analytical data up to but excluding product disposition.

Education and job skills:

  • (Experience/Education) National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline. Relevant work experience advantageous but not essential or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • (Technical/Business Knowledge (Job Skills) Basic technical knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures. Limited understanding of business unit/group function. Will perform this job in a quality system environment. Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in non-compliance with governmental regulations.

  • (Cognitive Skills) Learns to use professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve routine problems. Works on problems of limited scope. Minimal independent decision making.
