Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives:

The primary goal of this position is to optimize the shipment / transportation functions of ANSC (Abbott Nutritional Supply Chain) minimizing costs and maximizing service. To consolidate the responsibility for the procurement and management of all domestic ANSC transportation services. Allowing for the opportunity to positively impact processes, strategies, tactics and procedures to meet internal and external customer requirements, best-in-class practices, while containing costs and capitalizing on improvement opportunities. To develop a staff of highly proficient experts in the field of transportation and logistics, to meet the current and future demands of this critical area of supply chain operations.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

  • Carrier Management and Strategy

  • Manage relationships between the Division and carriers

  • Negotiate rates, service levels, pickup / delivery times and operating procedures.

  • Execute carrier contracts and agreements

  • Coordinate monthly and quarterly carrier reviews that cover SOP's, goals and objectives and develop action plans for future improvement

  • Tactical and strategic execution of transportation activities that support Division Sales and Brand strategies.Management and Leadership

  • Develop and foster close relationships with internal departments, such as Fulfillment / Deployment, DC & Plant Operations, Customer Service, Finance, Sales / CBC's and Supply Chain and Material Managers

  • Present regularly to senior executives on the state of the transportation business, both operationally and financially through profit and loss and operations business reviews.

  • Manage and develop the Transportation team, including hiring, goal setting, performance management, coaching, teamwork, projects and training

  • Set and review quarterly performance goals and conduct annual performance reviews

  • Implement process that support Performance Excellence to give the team solid constructive feedback and acknowledgement of accomplishments / contributions.

  • Partner with other senior members of Operations, MIS, Engineering and the Supply Chain to define develop and create projects to build functionality necessary to drive improvements and ensure the transportation business achieves and sustains best-in-class status.Operations / Systems

  • Partner with plants, D.C.'s, third party manufacturers and the Returns Department to report packaging issues and causal data associated with returns and damage

  • Serve as the liaison between carriers and internal process improvement / development teams where necessary for system and data integration.

  • Partner with plants and D.C.'s and third party manufactures to optimize pickup times and minimize time-in-transit.

  • Develop a formal process to review problem areas from a transportation perspective and develop corrective action plans in collaboration with inter-related areas of the Division.

  • Support carrier selection and load utilization to all destinations incorporating transportation management systems, (SAP, etc.) to optimize service and costs.

  • Document and manage the effective implementation of all operating and systems procedures, including responsibility for all operational / tactical functions in the Transportation Management System.

  • Support areas of the Supply Chain and Sales in resolving all customer delivery issues

  • Lead tactical planning discussions, meetings, or teams associated with the traffic / logistics organization, including carrier performance reviews and perfect order metrics

  • Utilization of transportation related Electronic Data Interchange transaction sets to improve ANSC supply chain performance

  • Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics or related business discipline, this minimal educational level is necessary to be successful in this position.
