Abbott Molecular (AM) has a new opening for Director Operational Excellence (IVD Assay Remediation / Continuous Improvement) located in Des Plaines, IL (Chicagoland). The incumbent of this role will be responsible for developing strategy, executing, and leading the continuous improvement of products and processes primarily with legacy products, but with focus towards developing more-robust processes for pipeline development products. Provides tactical direction to drive operational excellence. This role is required in order to align legacy products with current performance, quality, and customer expectations at Abbott Molecular.

The role includes, but is not limited to, working within the Quality Management System (QMS) improve product and process FMEAs, modernizing product specifications, design history files, risk management files. It will also require leading the execution of internal manufacturing and external (TPM) process characterization, development, validation, and control (drift prevention and process monitoring).

This leader will also ensure that test method development, validation, statistical process control and monitoring is in place. A key success factor will be to implement early signal detection.

This role will have direct reports and will be responsible for goal setting, development planning, succession planning, and performance management.

Minimum education and experience

Bachelors degree in scientific or engineering discipline required

  • 10+ years relevant business experience

  • Demonstrated leadership track record in process improvement / business excellence / quality improvements in med device/IVD industry/pharma required

  • Certifications in process improvement methodologies strongly preferred

  • Proven ability to facilitate cross-functional change at senior leadership levels.

  • Well developed leadership and project management capabilities with demonstrated success completing significant projects
