The Finance Manager R&D provides direct support to Divisional Vice President R&D and Sr. Director of Medical Affairs and reports directly to Controller of Abbott Molecular Division. Responsible for financial planning, reporting, analysis and financial controls and ensures timeliness, accuracy and integrity of all financial-related information, including compliance with GAAP and Corporate and Divisional Policies and Procedures. Key member of the R&D staff and supports effective decision making by senior leadership. Additionally, the position provides strategic financial support to Companion Diagnostics business segment and royalties.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

Responsible for all Planning and Reporting activities related to the R&D and Medical Affairs budgets. Ensures accuracy of financial information and related operational metrics including comparison to appropriate benchmarks. Collaborates cross-functionally to optimize R&D resource prioritization. Manages system and process development to effectively track and report R&D programs and clinical trials in order to facilitate program prioritization and investment decisions. Guides organization on effective tradeoffs between many operating variables and successful resolution of numerous conflicts and constantly changing elements. Maintains internal processes, procedures and controls, which ensures the integrity of financial assets and accuracy of financial statements and forecasts, including the underlying data supporting the financials; avoids errors and surprises; and complies with Division/Corporate financial policies and procedures as well as GAAP. Provides strategic financial support to Companion Diagnostics business segment, ensuring appropriate funding of resources and guidance on deal terms. Responsible for financial planning and reporting and strategic guidance for royalties. Works with legal team to ensure validity of all royalty payments.

Education:

Minimum education requirement is B.S Degree preferred in Finance or Accounting, an MBA, CPA and or CMA are strongly encouraged.

Background:

At least 8 years of progressive Financial experience in the areas of Financial Planning and Analysis, Cost Accounting, general accounting or Auditing.

Ability to manage tactical aspects of the finance process as well as being the strategic business partner.

Highly organized, strong communication, management, leadership and interpersonal skills are required. Problem solving is a key activity of this position requiring the individual to work independently with diverse challenges. Most challenges encountered require clear conceptual thinking combined with experienced judgment and the ability to translate business problems/opportunities on a financial basis effectively to all levels of the organization.
