Abbott in Israel is looking for an

Manager Software Engineering - Medical Device

to be based in the Haifa R&D Center.

The Software Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading the software engineering team for design, implementation and verification of our cardiac mapping and ablation systems . This is a highly visible role where you will join the project leadership team having an opportunity to directly interact with key stakeholders including KOLs and world-class researchers. You act as both Team Manager and Technical Lead.

Build and manage a high-performance software engineering team by developing, mentoring and coaching each engineer as appropriate. Inspire and motivate the team members to achieve individual and project goals for on-time product delivery with exceptional quality

  • Design and deliver cardiac mapping systems with best in class data visualization and usability

  • Drive development of software architecture and functionality - with an emphasis on modularity and portability to allow reuse. Manage and enhance software architecture and technology stack to meet future needs and scalability

  • Manage GUI, hardware control and database design for optimal performance and integration with system

  • Manage the research and prototyping of new and innovative solutions; manage feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended

  • Lead software development efforts with various external partners and subcontractors. Work with them to ensure that the work is getting done when it needs to be and with the quality and consistency we strive to deliver to our patients. Demonstrate strong and clear accountability for project success

  • Execute and track projects and resources to meet goals. Manages daily activities of the software engineering team

  • Promote good software design practices at every stage of development to deliver the highest quality software code. Evaluate and apply coding and design practices to the existing and new products

  • Ensure compliance with Abbott quality policies, procedures, and practices

  • Ensure documentation throughout all phases of research and development

  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams consisting of Clinical, Design & Usability, Marketing, R&D, Quality, and Regulatory

  • Review and provides functional approval for product and quality system documentation.

  • Report progress regularly to upper management

  • Collaborate with global software teams to ensure the flow and execution of software development tasks.

  • Effective project management and meet project milestones

  • Effective team building and people management

  • Establishment of software development process aligned with FDA regulation and Abbott quality system

  • Author software development schedule and verification test plans

  • Delivers highest quality software code

  • Delivers documentation of software requirements, design, implementation, integration and testing


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar

  • 10+ years of product software design and development experience of complex systems in advanced technologies development environment

  • 5+ years of team leadership or management experience leading local and remote software teams

  • 5+ years of experience in Medical device development and/or other highly regulated industry.

  • Strong technical knowledge of software engineering, both tools and processes, is required

  • Sound decision making and risk analysis skills on software

  • Experience measuring and reporting software quality-related metrics

  • Experience in project management of regulated medical software

  • Experience working with C/C++ or any other modern programming language

  • Familiarity with DICOM and PACS is a plus

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to upper management and other stakeholders in different functions at various levels

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable

  • Ability to work effectively a fast-paced changing environment.

  • Ability to travel approximately 15%.
