Our location in Irving, TX , currently has an opportunity for Principal Systems Software Engineer, Laboratory Automation R&D

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Leads the solution assessment; definition, configuration, and development of systems; system architecture and other complex designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops use cases, requirements, and specifications for new and existing system design.

  • Evaluates and defines product changes with one or more TPMs to resolve customer issues and provide input on new functionality of complex projects that may cross multiple products.

  • Leads and participates technical discussions with multiple TPMs. Builds and maintains relationships.

  • Evaluates vendors /TPM capabilities. Recommends strategic partnerships with new vendors/TPMs.

  • Leads investigations and provides technical oversight to determine root cause for complex issues that may cross multiple products. Arrives at timely conclusions.

  • Maintain high customer service by assisting support with customer issue resolution and coordinate inclusion of customer issue resolution with product/project patches and releases

  • Performs software installation and configuration; test laboratory workflows; creation and maintenance of business rules; verification of system and instrument interfaces

  • Generates input to service personnel

  • Provides and gathers inputs from internal and external sources and from members of the project’s cross functional team to achieve customer needs.

  • Solicits feedback to better understand unmet market needs for product improvements or new products from technology experts and from the commercial organization.

  • Evaluates technical risks, identifies engineering design alternatives, develops contingency plans and recommends actions.

  • Reviews and provides input into risk management documentation including FMEA and risk analyses.

  • Follows functional area policies and procedures. Provides technical input for functional area to policies and procedures.

  • Trains and mentors systems analysts in technological advances, tools and processes.

  • Ensures plans and resources are focused on site and division priorities.

  • Works with cross functional team in collaborative environment.

  • Relied on as subject matter expert on evaluating and recommending potential strategic partnerships

Accountability/Scope

  • Receives limited direction. Completes complex assignments and provides work directions

  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

  • Plans, leads and implements complex assignments for multiple projects.

  • Ensures project risks are addressed and appropriate technical skills are assigned.

  • Participates in hiring decisions for technical resources, identifies emerging resources requirements and provides inputs to the hiring manager.

  • Establishes and reviews complex plans for multiple projects.

  • Provides input on workload across projects and ensures appropriate technical skills are assigned to project.

  • Ensures plans, activities and resources are focused on Site and Division priorities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar discipline including Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Healthcare Informatics

  • 10+ or more years progressive work experience

  • Requires strong analytical and communication skills as well as sound judgment and the ability to work effectively with internal team members, software developers, and customer.

  • Very good oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of HIS/LIS/LIMS and laboratory operations is mandatory

  • Experience with communication protocols (ASTM, HL7, XML)

Preferred

  • Education or experience in Medical technology or clinical laboratory science; ASCP; CLS (NCA) is a plus

  • 5+ years programming experience in C/C++, Python, Java

  • Experience in Atlassian suite – JIRA, Bitbucket, and Confluence
