Core Job Responsibilities
Provides legal services and resolves legal matters for assigned responsibilities or clients. The Paralegal Position is the mid-level position for paralegals in Abbott’s Legal Division. The Commercial Paralegal:
Provides paralegal support to Commercial Attorneys in Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (ADx)
Performs substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts, contract terminology, and identifies basic legal issues related to assigned matter, for example drafting and responding to routine contract matters.
Resolves routine legal matters in area of responsibility with direct supervision from more experienced paralegals, paralegal supervisor and/or attorneys.
Assists attorneys in resolving legal issues on projects involving multiple disciplines within the Legal Division and/or multiple functional areas or divisions within Abbott.
Represents Legal Division internally to clients, serving as direct point of contact for ARDx legal group.
Interface with internal clients in preparing commercial agreements such as relating to contracts & pricing, professional service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and material transfer agreements.
Support attorneys on more complex legal agreements, assembling exhibits and schedules, coordinating input from other stakeholders, and conducting document/version comparison.
Maintains an Agreement log, tracking status and actions
Help maintain all agreements in document management system for permanent record.
Maintain templates in document management system and help prepare updates to templates.
Provides assistance for cross-Business Units project work.
Serves on committees as needed in the legal division.
Supervisory/ Management Responsibility
May direct assigned support staff in their responsibilities.
May participate in training of other paralegals
Reports to an attorney.

Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant legal education (Paralegal certificate)
Minimum Experience/ Training
Generally 4+ years of relevant legal experience
Developing proficiency in area of responsibility
