Primary Job Function
Seeking a commercial attorney with 4+ years of relevant experience to provide legal advice to Abbott’s Rapid Diagnostics Division. The position requires excellent legal and analytical capabilities, in conjunction with strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. The attorney will be expected to identify and resolve complex legal issues to support the operations of a global leader in the research, development, manufacturing, sales and marketing of rapid point-of-care diagnostic tests. With direct supervision from more experienced attorneys, the attorney will be responsible for providing legal counsel and helping the business identify and implement practical business solutions to achieve its goals.
Develop knowledge of Abbott’s business and client areas supported.
Draft, negotiate and review a wide range of agreements relating to sales, distribution, marketing, co-promotion, research and supply.
Review marketing programs and promotional materials to ensure compliance with Abbott policies and applicable law.
Advise and ensure that internal clients receive sound, practical and timely legal advice on a wide variety of assigned routine legal matters.
Work independently on a variety of routine matters and collaboratively with other attorneys on more significant matters.
Help direct the work of outside counsel, define project objectives and manage projects.
May lead projects, both within the legal department and across a variety of functions.
Position Accountability / Scope
Advises legal department managers of project developments in a timely manner.
Executes core job responsibilities in a timely manner.
Generally advises Managers and Directors.
No direct department budget responsibility; must however operate within budget. Where necessary, develops budgets for assigned legal matter with supervision from more experienced attorneys.
A successful candidate must possess the following:
Juris Doctorate degree, state bar certification, at least 4 years of relevant commercial legal experience.
Record of success in drafting, negotiating and counseling clients on a range of commercial transactions.
A successful candidate may possess the following (a plus, but not required):
Familiarity with U.S. laws relevant to manufacturing, sales and marketing of medical products and services, such as advertising, antitrust, privacy, and healthcare compliance.
Familiarity with U.S. laws relevant to sales and marketing of products to health care professionals and reimbursement by government programs, including fraud & abuse, false claims, interactions with physicians and privacy.
FDA, food law or other relevant industry experience.
Minimum Experience / Training Required
Generally 4+ years of relevant commercial legal experience
Developing proficiency in practice area
