The Senior Paralegal is a strong individual contributor to the Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Commercial legal department providing commercial legal support to all the business units, having the potential to substantially impact the Company’s business operations.
Drafting, negotiating and contract management of a variety of technology and other transactional agreements, including professional services and consulting agreements, software development agreements, software license and support agreements, software-as-a-service and cloud related agreements, master services agreements, statements of work, non-disclosure agreements, amendments, etc
Assisting attorneys with the creation of contract templates
Independently identifies problems, performs analysis and proposes solutions to an attorney;
Possesses sound knowledge of Abbott’s businesses supported and knowledge of the broader business impact;
Represents Legal Division internally to clients; and
Reviews invoices associated with payment for services, ensuring costs are reasonable, in scope of work performed and meet outside counsel billing guidelines.
Interface with internal clients in preparing commercial agreements such as relating to contracts & pricing, professional service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and clinical study agreements
Support attorneys on more complex legal agreements, assembling exhibits and schedules, coordinating input from other stakeholders
Help maintain all agreements in document management system
Maintain templates in document management system and help prepare updates to templates
Support the preparation of presentations on various topics
Supervisory / Management Responsibility
Coaches and directs assigned support staff (may include junior paralegals and legal assistants) in their responsibilities
Serves as role model for Paralegals and Legal Assistants
Assists in selecting and recruiting staff members
Typically reports to Paralegal Supervisor or an attorney

Advises legal department managers of critical project developments in a timely manner
Executes core job responsibilities in a timely manner
Assigned matters generally have a significant impact on business activities and operations
Interacts across all levels of management
No direct department budget responsibility; must however operate within budget. Develops estimates for outside counsel fees for assigned legal matters with supervision from more experienced paralegals and/or attorneys
Demonstrates strong leadership competencies, considered as a potential successor to the Paralegal Supervisor
Uses discretion and independent judgment
Bachelor’s Degree and / or relevant legal education (Paralegal certificate)
Experience/ Training Required
Generally 4 – 7 years of relevant experience
Proficient in area of responsibility
