The Sr Manager of Systems Engineering is responsible for managing the relationship with R&D to determine and describe customer needs for new products and to develop product requirements and system descriptions.

The incumbent is responsible for the following:

Managing the relationship with R&D and other functions to translate customer need into unambiguous verifiable Requirements that clearly define the products.

Reviewing the system requirements of all projects to determine their technical feasibility.

Schedule proper resources for their management approval and verification assuring new and legacy product system requirements conformance to proper industrial and governmental standards and regulations regarding safety and efficacy performing special projects of a technical nature.

Managing assigning responsibilities to subordinates and delegates sufficient authority to carry out such responsibilities.

Managing recognizing and commending individual merit and performance.

Take steps to improve poor performance; and as cases warrant, recommends promotion, salary increase, or disciplinary action technical excellence in System Engineering discipline.

Stay abreast of the technological advances in the engineering and other techncial fields along with changes to the safety and performance standards.

Strategic Integrate customer needs, technical capability, and business drivers to propose and help drive product strategy.

Communicate product development program status to development teams and ADD management.

Balance product quality, performance, time to market, and cost issues in order to meet ADD goals.

Provide the forum to facilitate communication, problem solving, and goal alignment between technical, operational, and commercial organizations.

Work with functional leadership to determine and ensure appropriate resource availability and assignments.

Provide leadership to individual program managers.

Prioritize activities among several programs to balance resource availability, program status and schedule, and business need.

Work with functional leadership to anticipate and solve problems.

Follow an increasingly complex and evolving Design Control system throughout for product development activities.

The incumbent is accountable for providing resources to perform System Engineering tasks necessary to complete company Engineering projects.

The incumbent is accountable for maintaining high quality and productive work product in support of these projects.


The incumbent must have a Bachelor degree in engineering, physical science or related field. A Masters or PhD Degree is preferred. The incumbent must have 10 years experience in developing and releasing medical devices and instruments. To accomplish the functions of this position the incumbent must be trained in physical or engineering science and have experience in the integration, evaluation and commercialization of diagnostic systems. The incumbent must have knowledge of design control, and risk management practices as well as a working knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations and PMA / 510k filing requirements. The incumbent must be familiar with the technologies employed in diagnostic systems including chemistry, numeric analysis, mechanical engineering. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in the management and analysis of large data sets using Excel, MATLAB or similar data analysis tools. The incumbent must have the ability to analyze product proposals and to manage the creation of top level conceptual architectures and context diagrams. Written and verbal communication skills are vital along with good negotiating skills to allow the incumbent to direct multidisciplinary teams toward solutions. The incumbent must also be able to multitask the numerous Systems activities related to new product development, on-market and change management to be able to lead with authority that is base on expertise and pragmatism. The incumbent must have good communication skills with the ability both absorb and present complex information. The incumbent must have documentation skills with the ability to create clear, accessible and maintainable documentation. The incumbent must have be ability to work on many projects concurrently, where external events determine task switching. The incumbent must be flexibility and open with a willingness to adopt or present the solutions of others.
