Develop and execution of short and long-term automation strategy for new product manufacturing process development to improve manufacturing quality, consistency, productivity, cycle time, and cost. This includes research, selection, and integration of hardware and software for automated visual inspection, robotics, and AI.

Impact this role will have on Abbott:

  • Design and develop vision and automation system hardware and programs to integrate into automated processes capable of providing consistent and repeatable results in support of manufacturing solutions, collaborating with both external vision system suppliers and internal customers as appropriate

  • Provide technical expertise, leadership, and guidance to process development engineering team for new medical devices supporting rapidly growing neuromodulation business

  • Research and maintain knowledge of new developments in automation and machine vision design technologies

  • Evaluate and enhance existing installed vision/automation solutions based on product quality, cost, and manufacturability

  • Lead planning, execution, and compliance of process validation as required by FDA, other regulatory entities, and company quality system

  • Support new product introductions and ensure successful transition to manufacturing

  • Collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, sustaining engineering) to achieve organizational objectives

  • Maintain metrics, prepare technical reports, develop improvement recommendations, and deliver presentations reflecting the status and results of projects on a regular basis

  • Prepare budgets and control expenditures to stay within spending limits.

Your qualifications and education:

  • BS or advanced degree in Computer Science/Graphics, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related fields with manufacturing machine vision system design experience.

  • 3 to 5+ years manufacturing engineering experience

  • 3 to 5+ years’ experience developing successful integrated machine vision solutions

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience working with one or more major vision technology providers such as Cognex, Keyence, Halcon, National Instruments, Matrox, Open CV

  • Cognex VisionPro and Keyence Vision Editor Skills a plus.

  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, .NET, C++, C# programming

  • Experience with the development and implementation of automated electro/mechanical systems and PLC’s

  • Experience in development of electro/mechanical test and assembly fixturing

  • Proficiency using Solid Works a plus

  • Prior experience in medical device / FDA regulated manufacturing a plus

  • Experience with new production introductions and associated process development

  • Expertise with statistical techniques (e.g., DOE, SPC)

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to forge strong, collaborative business relationships to help and organization exceed its objectives

  • Aptitude to effectively manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications with experience effectively communicating to multiple levels in the organization

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable
