The Senior Manager of New Product Development (NPD) Process and Portfolio Management supports the Abbott Neuromodulation division PMO through ownership of NPD processes and portfolio across organizational lines. These responsibilities include managing the execution and continuous improvement of the stage gate process, developing, tracking and reporting program metrics, oversight of the governance process, cross functional resource/budget allocation tracking and reporting, and support of annual portfolio strategic planning. Ultimately this manager is responsible for elevating and maintaining a high level of project management maturity for the Abbott Neuromodulation division.
Major Ongoing Responsibilities:
Maintains and continuously improves division NPD processes including the stage-gate process. Synchronizes process improvement plans with other process owners and stakeholders within the organization.
Implement standardized project planning and control processes and ensure tools are effectively used across all NPD programs in accordance with the quality system including time lines, milestones, and design control.
Establishes, tracks and reports standardized portfolio wide metrics for projects including schedule milestones, resources, budget, quality, scope, risk, etc.
Plans and coordinates the monthly division portfolio and program review meetings.
Collects, analyzes and reports cross-functional resource allocation to facilitate portfolio prioritization decisions.
Works with Finance to analyze portfolio wide program spending data to facilitate portfolio prioritization decisions.
Generates and distributes appropriate reports to keep management and other stakeholders informed of portfolio wide status.
Anticipates future directions project management techniques and selects/implements best Project Management practices including standardized and/or automated systems/tools (such as PPM).
Facilitate annual NPD portfolio strategic planning process across functions.
Trains Program Management staff and other cross-functional stakeholders on application of PM best practices to ensures successful program tracking and execution.
Works to mature the program management organizations by baselining existing performance and then selecting activities that will advance skillsets within the team.
Experience and Training Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree - Required (Engineering or related field)
Master’s Degree - Preferred (Business / Project Management / Engineering)
Minimum 10 years of experience in new product development, project management and/or engineering with progressively increasing responsibility is required. Extensive medical device industry experience and supervisory / managerial experience is preferred.
Certification in project management, lean/six sigma and/or similar areas is preferred.

Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for FDA regulated environment.
