Manages the planning and execution of process development engineering projects including the design and development of manufacturing processes, documentation, and equipment to successfully transition new products from design to manufacturing while enhancing productivity and product quality

This Role:

  • Seeking a leader to fill the dual role of managing a team of very experienced and talented technical engineers covering multiple disciplines while continuing to deliver challenging individual engineering contributions. The role is anticipated to split about 50% as a manager and 50% as an individual technical contributor.

  • Accountable to conduct research and stay abreast of new process technologies to employ in our manufacturing process enabling operations to be a competitive advantage for the Abbott NM organization

  • Accountable to organize work, manage resources/finances, and develop team to lead cross functional and cross site programs leveraging innovative processes and new technologies for new product development and deployment

  • Accountable to forecast resources and finances, execute plans, and measure/communicate progress to multiple management levels within the organization for projects covering multiple year horizons

Impact this role will have at Abbott:

  • Provide technical expertise, leadership, and guidance to process development engineering team for new medical devices supporting rapidly growing neuromodulation business

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a group of engineers or technicians

  • Research and maintain knowledge of new developments in manufacturing and design technologies

  • Evaluate process and design alternatives based on product quality, cost, and manufacturability

  • Lead planning, execution, and compliance of process validation as required by FDA, other regulatory entities, and company quality system

  • Lead and support new product introductions and ensure successful transition to manufacturing

  • Collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives

  • Maintain metrics, prepare technical reports, develop improvement recommendations, and deliver presentations reflecting the status and results of team projects on a regular basis

  • Implement and manage resource planning and project management tools

  • Train engineering team and cultivate engineering procedures to facilitate compliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory entities, and company policies/quality systems

  • Prepare budgets and control expenditures to stay within spending limits.

  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps

  • Ability to implement best in class inspections

  • Ability guide a cross functional team to solutions that are designed for manufacturability in parallel with aggressive timelines

Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand Abbott’s marketplace success:

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent technical field; advanced degree preferred

  • 7+ years manufacturing experience, with 3 years of people management experience

  • Prior experience in medical device / FDA regulated manufacturing preferred

  • Experience leading new production introductions and associated process development

  • Expertise with statistical techniques (e.g., DOE, SPC)

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to forge strong, collaborative business relationships to help and organization exceed its objectives

  • Past success elevating team performance through establishing clear and challenging goals and measuring results

  • Aptitude to effectively manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications with experience effectively communicating to multiple levels in the organization.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable

  • Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally

  • Experience with CAD

  • Experience with equipment systems, PM’s, and calibration

  • TPM experience preferred
