We are currently have a vacancy for Manufacturing Team Manager and this role will involve the following:

Primary Function / Goals / Objectives

Reporting to the Operations & Supply Chain Manager, key responsibilities include:

  • Drive own team and engineering team to maximize production performance.

  • Manage your team’s time and attendance, including absenteeism/overtime review and occupational health follow-up.

  • Foster and promote effective communication within your team and with other teams and functions.

  • Promote continuous improvement and manage change effectively.

  • Work in a highly automated manufacturing environment and maintain a high profile presence on the manufacturing floor.

  • Seek out and establish improvements in manufacturing practice.

  • Work with engineering to resolve manufacturing problems, effect changes in procedures and ramp up line speeds.

  • Ensure financial performance is maintained at required level with regard to material and labour efficiency.

  • Ensure strict compliance with all manufacturing procedures, regulatory and GMP requirements, quality procedures including record keeping, inspection standards, product disposition and validation protocols.

  • Prepare for and participate in internal and external quality audits.

  • Implement corrective and preventative actions identified through the quality process.

  • Ensure strict compliance with all plant health and safety policies, including detailed incident and accident reporting.

  • Follow all Health and Safety Rules and Regulations in the plant.

  • Maintain plant safety at the highest level with a zero accident target and with immediate response and thorough investigation and corrective action for all hazardous occurrences and accidents and follow-up.

  • Minimize environmental risks to ensure no adverse environmental impact, with immediate and appropriate response and thorough investigation for all environmental incidents.

  • Provide leadership, direction and co-ordination to direct reports.

  • Monitor cGMP, hygiene and safety practices within the department through focus on walk downs.

  • Ensure equipment is checked regularly to ensure no non-conformances exist and to ensure they are operating in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Monitor performance versus Plan and Update. Take corrective action as necessary in order to meet targets for output, payroll and operating expenses.

  • Assist Department Manager and Planners in preparation of production schedules.

  • Maintain the highest standard of safety, quality, customer service and environmental control ensuring compliance with Abbott policies and procedures, meeting all local, statutory requirements and meeting the regulatory requirements of countries to which are products are shipped.

  • Maintain awareness for the need for ongoing change and continuous improvement. Implement strategies and programs to meet business objectives and to meet future growth requirements with full focus on business excellence strategy.

  • Take responsibility for training and development of employees on his/her shift. Ensure all employees achieve their full potential and develop their skills to meet the current and future needs of the Manufacturing Department. Ensure all new recruits or internal moves get full induction and on the job training.

  • Maintain a positive employee relations atmosphere, ensuring that there is good communication and co-operation by encouraging knowledge sharing and open exchange of ideas within the Plant.

  • Ensure the ongoing operations are effectively managed and ensure KPIs are achieved and maintained.

  • Attend department meetings as scheduled; ensure adequate preparation and contribution to these meetings.

  • Ensure continued implementation of the Talent Management System for all direct reports completing all goals, development plans and performance reviews within agreed timelines.

  • Manage team effectively through coaching and counselling where appropriate, leading by example at all times.

  • Troubleshooting and fault finding of processes and equipment in the moulding/extrusion department

  • Leading the Mould and Machine maintenance functions.

  • Leading the Engineering support group to provide:

  • Process development, optimization and validation

  • Material selection and qualification

  • Equipment / mould procurement and introduction

  • Management of capital projects from inception to completion

  • EHS support and compliance within all areas of the dept.

  • Preparation for and participation in internal and external quality audits.

Major Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance across the shift at all times.

  • Meet on a continuous and reliable basis the requirements to produce the highest quality product in the most efficient, safe and hygienic manner, in compliance with all company policies and procedures.

  • Provide the necessary support to the department to achieve organizational plant goals.

  • Provide overall leadership, direction and co-ordination to your direct reports.

  • Monitor performance versus Plan and Update.

  • Maintain a high standard of safety, quality and adherence to cGMP in the plant.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:

  • General Manufacturing Operators and Process Service Operators Packing Operators will report to the Operations Front Line Leader.

EHS Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Environmental Health & Safety standards are met and all EHS regulations and procedures are adhered to. Foster an awareness of Environmental Health & Safety in the plant and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for EHS performance and compliance through active participation and support of Abbott’s EHS Program

  • Ensure employees report any work related injuries or illness to employee health and are promptly investigated

  • Active participation and support of Abbott’s EHS programs

  • Attend EHS training assigned and ensure that employees who report to you attend required training

  • Investigate all employee related H&S incidents, spills, releases to the environment and near misses, provide follow-up of corrective actions and ensure close out

  • Conduct staff meetings in which EHS is part of the agenda at least once per month.

Education Required:

  • A relevant third level qualification

Knowledge:

  • Excellent communication / interpersonal skills

  • Proven track record in people management

  • Demonstrated flexible and innovative approach to work

  • Previous experience of working in a regulated manufacturing environment would be advantageous

  • A minimum of three years' experience in a supervisory role in a GMP Manufacturing/Pharmaceutical industry.

  • Good understanding of the manufacturing process.

  • Good problem solving, communication, computers analysis and decision-making skills are required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Good analytical, problem solving.

  • Good human relations skills in dealing with all levels of employees.

  • The ability to organize, develop, motivate and understand employees.

Accountability / Scope

  • Deviation from specification or failure to take corrective action or follow procedures for any period of time could have serious financial and quality consequences.

  • Where non conformances are made in the department this can lead to delays to the overall organizational work schedules and impact on the achievement of customer service goals.
