As a Digital Content Writer, you will apply your passion for creating clear, concise, informative and on-brand copy that helps both patients and healthcare professionals better understand the chronic conditions they live with and Abbott’s role in treating them. You will create web, email, social media and other digital channel content which informs our users, contains compelling calls to action, and improves SEO performance and on-page engagement. You'll partner with digital strategists, channel managers, analytics managers, creative groups (on design) and a content strategy manager to identify unmet or insufficient user communication needs and solve them.

Main Responsibilities

  • Write clear, concise, usable and useful editorial copy, user interface text, emails and landing page content, and community/social media responses and moderation.

  • Manage and update content governance for the web, email, social and other digital channels.

  • Partner with subject matter experts to explain the disease journey to patients, and to thoroughly explain how Abbott technology works and describe clinical outcomes to health care professionals.

  • Provide editorial feedback and manage a small team of writers.

  • Maintain the sitemap for owned web properties

  • Utilize agile workflow in writing and other related projects.

  • Incorporate learnings from analytics data and usability testing into the development of content.

  • Perform review and analysis of existing content across identified flows to identify elements that would benefit from testing and/or optimization.

  • Ensure that online content supports SEO and follows corporate brand standards, web style guidelines, ADA requirements, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, and is consistent across multiple experiences, platforms, and touchpoints.

  • Suggest and establish process changes to improve overall workflow/publishing efficiency.

  • Assist with localization efforts to identify and test specific copy changes needed to be relevant and accurate in different locales.

  • Create and maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation.

  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities, as assigned.


  • BA in English, journalism, advertising, marketing or other relevant field or equivalent education and experience.

  • 5+ years of web content production and UI writing experience, as well as experience incorporating best practices in SEO, social media, dynamic/video content, and editorial planning.

  • 2 - 5+ years of experience working with content management systems (e.g. Adobe Experience Manager and Sitecore) and experience working with technical team members (i.e. business analysts and developers) to execute web projects.

  • Extensive experience with writing skills in a regulated industry, preferably Medical Device.

  • Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills; can succinctly and clearly communicate complex ideas.

  • Experience managing a small team of writers or related skill sets.

  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, SEO principles, A/B and usability testing, and web page layout.

  • Understanding of design principles, web writing best practices and how content fits into the user experience.

  • A passionate advocate of user-centered writing.

  • Experience collaborating with designers, product managers, and digital strategists.

  • Able to balance business and marketing needs with user needs for clarity and transparency.

  • Experience with Agile a plus.
