We are looking for a high caliber Principal Human Factors Engineer to join our growing team. This position leads the execution of the human factors engineering process for critically important products and product lines with the purpose of meeting divisional growth objectives. Creates detailed human factors project plans, selects and manages external human factors resources to meet project goals. Leads internal and external human factors resources to conduct customer research, use-related analysis and usability requirements development, conceptual and interaction design development, usability testing, and validation. Responsible for ensuring that the human factors/usability engineering process is exercised across product lines. Provides technical supervision to less experienced human factors engineers. Applies advanced human factors methods and principles to the design and evaluation of complex systems. Remains abreast of research and advancements in human factors engineering.

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for directing and coordinating all activities necessary to complete Human Factors engineering projects. Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting ethnographic user research to identify user needs

  • Translating user needs to requirements and product design concepts

  • Developing prototypes to explore and validate product design concepts

  • Performing workflow, task and use error analyses

  • Conducting Formative Usability testing

  • Conducting Summative Validation testing

  • Participate on development program teams to ensure human factors principles are considered and implemented.

  • Organize and direct the work of staff and outside consultants working on human factors tasks to effectively and efficiently support product development efforts within the organization.

  • Create and communicate project plans and deliverables, and manage time to meet project deadlines.

Your Experience and Skillsets

  • Proven ability to apply knowledge of human factors principles (human performance and limitations – perceptual, cognitive, motor skills, anthropomorphic) and techniques (user research, user-interface design, usability testing) to the design, development, and evaluation of hardware and/or software products.

  • Experience leading Human Factors activities across the product lifecycle, including ethnographic research, user needs identification, workflow and task analysis, requirements development, user interface design, user error analysis, usability and validation testing.

  • A proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership.

  • Experience with software and/or hardware user-interface design.

  • Proven ability to interface with customers in a highly professional manner.

  • Ability to quickly assimilate advanced domain knowledge.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability and desire to travel, including internationally.

Education Requirements

  • M.S. degree in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant Human Factors/Usability engineering experience in hardware-software systems product development.

Your Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Ph.D. degree in one of the above disciplines.

  • Experience in medical device development.

  • Working knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology.

  • Working knowledge of Human Factors/Usability Engineering regulatory standards.
