The senior SQL DBA works without appreciable supervision as a part of the Product Technology team. Oversees, operates and coordinates large multi-tier database systems, typically operational on 24x7 basis with global users, and comprised of multiple technologies. Executes activities relating to the operation and maintenance of databases including installation, configuration and operation of new and existing databases, monitoring, backup & restore.

The individual should also be familiar with working through processes and procedures in order to accomplish objectives while at the same time being able to act as an independent thinker who can take full ownership of systems and projects.


  • Installs, configures and upgrades database software on various platforms. Maintains accurate inventory for software and hardware.

  • Responsible for database consistency, integrity, security and auditing in accordance with regulatory and compliance requirements.

  • Performs routine database administration functions including database capacity planning, pro-active performance monitoring and tuning, executing security procedures, patching and backup & recovery processes.

  • Implements advanced monitoring and alerting solutions for database systems.

  • Troubleshoots and solves problems with existing systems quickly and completely. Responsible for diagnosing the problem, impact analysis and implementing a solution to prevent future problems.

  • Ensures that the networking environment is always improving, keeping up with company requirements, and even looking forward in order to provide additional value to the company.

  • Develops or coordinates with others to ensure automation of tasks that are regularly occurring.

  • Coordinates with system administrators to conduct operations.

  • Maintains appropriate level system documentation.

  • Plans and monitors assigned projects and communicate project progress.

  • Mentors less experienced DBA’s in the performance of day-to-day and project-related duties as directed.

  • Assists in defining standards, guidelines, best practices and metrics.

  • Identifies tasks and processes requiring automation and implements the most effective solution.

  • Develops detailed implementation, test and roll-back procedures for planned changes.

  • Applies enterprise security policies and standards when performing all operational duties.

  • Self-directed coordination of implementation projects, tasks, device documentation and cross training of coworkers.

  • Participates in all call rotation as directed.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.


  • 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience.

  • Experience in designing MySQL/MSSQL, POSTGres, Mongo database platforms would be beneficial.

  • Knowledge of programming skills such as in T-SQL, PowerShell, VBScript, etc.

  • Knowledge of SQL Server native HA (High Availability) and Disaster Recovery (DR) technologies.

  • Knowledge of Windows Operating System (OS) and clustering component.

  • Experience in database performance tuning and optimization, using native or third-party monitoring and troubleshooting tools.

  • Experience in large enterprise database concepts and environments, as well as solution delivery methodologies gained through a combination of formal training and progressive work experience.

  • Comprehensive database skills, spreadsheet experience, and analytical expertise are required.

  • Experience working in a regulated environment preferred.

  • Experience with transactional and/or data warehouse practices.

  • Ability to architect the database based on user requirements.

  • Strong (OS) Operating System experience in both Linux and Windows and how they interact with the supporting DB for both tuning and support.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with all applicable regulatory and company operating procedures, processes, policies, and tasks.

  • Strong process and procedure ownership experience for system audits.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence within and across organizations, functions and business areas.

  • Excellent analytical, presentation, and organizational skills and the ability to meet multiple deadlines and work independently.

  • Must be able to manage an assignment from start to completion; must be adept at handling multiple assignments in a timely manner and meeting assigned deadlines. Able to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.

  • Ability to use discretion and handle sensitive/confidential information. Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable regulations and Company operating procedures, processes, policies, and tasks.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Ability to travel approximately 10-20% of time.
