Primary liaison between the IT and business areas for the Product Development and Approval domain in Business Solutions and Services. The Product Development and Approval domain is responsible clinical, R&D and product life cycle management systems across all divisions. Provides direct support to assigned business area. Works directly with clients and applies IT and applies IT and business knowledge and experience to develop and understand the business case and business requirements to solve for technology related business problems. Leads department level initiatives or provides assistance to Program or Project managers on phases of a larger project. May assist in business relationship management, business strategy and planning, portfolio/demand management

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.

  • Identifies current and emerging business needs and works with corporate service providers to evaluate alternative IT solutions using standard information systems methodologies and best practices.

  • Proactively seek out strategic business opportunities with business unit executives for the application of new or existing IT capabilities.

  • Develops information systems strategies that meet the requirements of the business. Identifies the business benefits of alternative strategies. Ensures compliance between business strategies and technology directions.

  • May conduct training.

  • Identify process disconnects and translate them into improvement opportunities with cost savings or avoidance, productivity improvements, or revenue generating business benefits

  • Develops business relationships and integrates activities with other IT departments to ensure successful implementation and support of project efforts. Manages relationships between clients involved and IT organizations to assure effective communication between the groups is occurring. Brokers services within IT community on behalf of customers; coordinates system solutions. Allies with other IT functional areas to remain current on project status, and inform customer management of progress; conversely, keeps IT managers aware of user issues and resolves conflicts.

  • Clinical, R&D and product life cycle management system experience is a plus

Accountability and Scope:

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives of assignment.

  • Has defined authority and responsibility for a significant area of work, including technical, financial and quality aspects. Establishes organizational objectives and delegates assignments. Accountable for actions and decisions taken by self and subordinates.

  • Accountable for the accuracy of the fit of the proposed solution to the business needs and the information upon which the business justification and prioritization decisions are made. Also accountable for communicating the business need and drivers to development groups to assure the implementation phase can fulfill the business need.

  • The quality and timeliness of above activities impacts business processes typically involving 50-100 critical members of the business unit and the total system costs are typically 2 to 5 million dollars

  • Independently conceives and develops general approaches to develop business requirements and business case

  • Exercises latitude in the approach to problem solving.

  • Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long time perspective for desired results.

  • Determines and develops approach, requirements and business case and to problem.

  • Highly complex work activities covering technical, financial and quality aspects and contributing to formulation of IT strategy. Work involves creative application of wide range of technical and / or management principles.

  • Influences organization decisions and business area objectives. Decisions impact work and achievement of business area objectives.
