Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (formerly Alere) is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.

This position is responsible for the development and execution of Abbott’s Rapid Diagnostic Division (ARDx) global sourcing strategies for assigned categories. This individual must have the ability to effectively lead and work within diverse multi-functional teams, using deep knowledge of the category to drive improvements in quality, service, risk, cost, and technological capability of our supply base. The position is responsible for approximately $45MM in annual spend covering packaging categories. This position can be located in Abbott Park, IL, Portland, ME, or San Diego, CA.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Leadsthe creation of ARDx’s global category strategies, in conjunction withcross-functional stakeholders across the company.This strategy is the basis of all sourcingdecisions across the company, and must effectively meet the needs of thebusiness, while keeping ARDx at the forefront of the industry in the areas ofsupplier quality, service, risk, cost, and technological capability.

  • Subjectmatter expert for sourcing knowledge in the assigned categories.Maintains and distributes marketintelligence, stays abreast of the changing supply base & new technologies,and is able to effectively interface with engineering / R&D on supplier& component / material selection.Uses knowledge of category cost drivers and vendor innovation to driveexploration of lower cost / higher value design alternatives that still meetour end product needs.

  • Buildsand maintains a multi-functional network of stakeholders (upstream, downstream,and peer) in order to ensure that any strategy supports the needs of thebusiness, and to facilitate initial buy-in, ongoing engagement, and support forexecution of the global strategy at all levels.

  • Leadssupplier selection, negotiation efforts, and contract development throughoutthe RFP process.

  • Providesleadership in developing new procurement processes and procedures – keeps abreastof innovations in the wider procurement career field, and actively looks for opportunitiesfor improvement.

  • Leadssupplier performance evaluations with both internal and external stakeholders anddrive supplier improvement projects to enhance innovation and quality, reducecost, and improve supply chain service / efficiency.

  • Identifiesand elevates areas of highest risk within the category and leadsmulti-functional teams to develop actionable risk mitigation strategies.

  • Identifies,successfully gets support from the appropriate stakeholders for, and deliverscost savings projects to ensure we meet our organizational savings commitments.

  • Reviewsand provides recommendations on contracts, negotiations, redlines, etc. withinternal and external stakeholders.

  • Mentorsmore junior members of the team, to facilitate rapid development of their advancedtactical & strategic skills.

  • Performsother duties & projects as assigned.

Required educational background:

  • Bachelor’sDegree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Finance, or Engineering.Preferred educational background:

  • Master’sDegree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Finance, or Engineering.

  • Certificationfrom ISM or APICS.

  • Experiencewith Lean and/or Six Sigma manufacturing concepts . Required experiential background:

  • 3+years of experience in procurement and/or packaging in progressively responsiblepositions in a highly regulated/analytical manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstratedexperience developing and implementing sourcing strategies that have successfullybeen adopted by the wider organization, and yielded measurable business results.

  • Strongtechnical acumen.

  • Strongprocurement/sourcing skills including spend analysis, negotiations, supplierrelationship management, eSourcing knowledge, total cost of ownershipcalculations, and market fundamentals.Experience managing and taking action to achieve KPIs such as savingstargets, average weighted payment terms, etc.

  • Abilityto identify a problem and lead an extended team in a complex, global andmulticultural environment to frame it, determine root cause, drive to potentialsolutions, build and present a business case, and communicate effectively toleadership to garner support.

  • Abilityto get things done in a complex environment, using good judgement to makewell-reasoned decisions, even with less than perfect information.Acts with a sense of urgency, and willinglytakes on tactical roles as necessary to achieve objectives.

  • Strongskills with the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Preferred experiential background:

  • 5+years of experience in procurement in progressively responsible positions in ahighly regulated/analytical manufacturing environment.

  • 3+years managing packaging categories
